Arsenal sign England Under-17 keeper Sian Rogers

Arsenal Ladies have completed the signing of England Under-17 goalkeeper Sian Rogers from Birmingham City.

Rogers is yet to feature for the Blues’ first-team this season, and has only lined-up for the WSL 1 strugglers as an unused substitute. Birmingham have conceded six goals in as many games, with Rebecca Spencer taking the number one jersey and Sophie Baggaley opting as the back-up keeper.

However, the 17-year-old has featured regularly on the international scene, having been an integral part of the England national team since the tender age of 13. Rogers was also included in the team that qualified for the European Championships in Iceland this summer.

Her new side currently sit up the other end of the table, just two points behind current league leaders Chelsea. The Gunners have conceded just three goals in six games, but Rogers remains unlikely to feature regularly for the North London outfit.

Arsenal’s current goalkeepers Emma Byrne and Siobhan Chamberlain have both impressed this season, with the latter currently in Canada representing the England national team in the 2015 World Cup. Instead, Rogers is likely to play for the Development squad, who recently reached the FA Youth Cup final, before unfortunately falling to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Aston Villa.

Rogers took to social media to thank her old club after confirming her move to London. “Pleased that I’ve signed for @ArsenalLadies new start and exciting times ahead and wanted to say a massive thank you to @BCLFC over 4 years,” she tweeted.
